Capitol Hill & Local Advocacy Coaching
Securing a first meeting with an elected official is only the beginning. The organizations and individuals who see real policy movement are the ones who understand how to build an ongoing relationship with legislative offices, city councils, and regulatory bodies over time. This coaching is designed for that longer game, helping community groups, nonprofits, faith organizations, and individual advocates move from a single meeting to sustained, effective engagement.
This work draws on direct experience organizing and leading advocacy meetings on Capitol Hill as well as in state and local government, giving participants a realistic picture of how legislative offices actually operate, what staff and elected officials respond to, and how to keep an issue visible long after the initial ask. Whether the goal is influencing a city zoning decision, a state level policy, or federal legislation, the fundamentals of relationship building, clear communication, and persistence remain the same.
For smaller organizations or first time advocates, this coaching also demystifies a process that can feel inaccessible. Understanding how to schedule a meeting, prepare talking points, follow up appropriately, and build coalitions with other groups turns advocacy from an occasional event into an ongoing practice.
• Preparation for meetings with legislators at the local, state, and federal level
• Strategies for effective, ongoing engagement including follow up, relationship building, and remaining visible between meetings
• Constituent visit toolkits and templates for advocacy letters
• Coalition building training to sustain pressure across multiple legislative sessions
• Direct experience organizing and leading advocacy meetings on Capitol Hill and in state and local government
